Some of the upperclasswomen teaching our new freshwomen how to sing the Maria High School song:
Hail, Maria High School
Wave your gold and blue.
Your fair and loyal daughters
Ever will be true.
Your silver portals beckon
Your gleaming cross points the way.
We love your name,
We’ll bring it fame,
Maria, we proudly say,
CHORUS
Maria High School,
Maria High School,
Tribute to Heav’n’s fair Queen,
Maria High School,
Maria High School,
You’re the fairest of all we’ve seen.
We love your banner,
We’ll do it honor,
We’ll cherish the gold and blue.
From our loyal hearts we’ll always shout,
MARIA HIGH, WE’RE TRUE TO YOU
A snippet from yesterday’s Freshman Orientation.
No, this is not our entire freshman class!
Welcome to all of our new students…. let the 2011-2012 school year begin!
Did you know that we are celebrating our 100th anniversary this year?
Twenty-Four (24)
What is 24?
· An American television series produced for the Fox Network and syndicated worldwide, starring Kiefer Sutherland
· The number of hours in a day
· It is the smallest number with exactly eight divisors: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24. It is a highly composite number, having more divisors than any smaller number. Adding up all the proper divisors of 24 except 4 and 8 gives 24, hence 24 is a semiperfect number
· The atomic number of chromium
· The number of carats representing pure gold
· The number representing Missouri in order of states joining the union
· The number of letters in both the modern and classical Greek alphabet. For the latter reason, also the number of chapters or “books” into which Homer’s Odyssey and Iliad came to be divided.
· The number of major and minor keys in Western tonal music, not counting enharmonic equivalents
· In Christian apocalyptic literature it represents the complete Church, being the sum of the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 Apostles of the Lamb.
So far, we’ve covered most of the major subjects taught at Maria High School (math, science, history, literature, languages, fine arts, and theology), a little pop culture (in reference to the television series “24”) and even referenced one of our school colors (gold… maybe not 24 carat gold, but still!).
But, we haven’t reached the most significant reference of the number 24. Can you guess what it is?
If you happened to pull up the Maria High School website (www.mariahighschool.org) and found your way over to our 2011-2012 school calendar, used a little math (or perhaps your fingers), you would have come to the conclusion that there are, in fact, 24 days left of summer vacation. The most significant reference to the number 24 (at least for the current 24 hour period - ha!) is that we are that exact number of days away from returning to MHS for the next school year. I hope you’re all as excited as we are.
We also hope that you’ll continue to follow our blog throughout this school year. We promise videos, pictures, and many more exciting things to come.

The First of Many Welcomes….
Hello and welcome to the blog that we have created to give you insight into what it is like to be a current student at Maria High School.
Now, when we say “you,” who are we talking about?
YOU could mean:
a prospective student
a parent of a prospective student
a teacher, principal, or administrator at another school
a potential donor
an alumna (former student)
a current student, teacher, or administrator (because we are a family, after all)
When we say “we” or “us,” who are we talking about?
a group of current students chosen by our recruiter to represent our current student body as a whole.
We encourage YOU (whoever you are) to ask US (whoever we are) questions, interact with us, give us comments, and show us some love. Because, you’ll notice from our earlier post, that we operate by these words:
“Always More, Always Better, Always With Love.”
Great words handed down to us by our foundress, Venerable Servant of God Maria Kaupas.
Finally, we look forward to sharing the next year of our lives with you over the course of the 2011-2012 school year. Stay tuned… school starts August 22nd!
